The High Court yesterday rejected a writ petition filed by Md Matiur Rahman, former member of the National Board of Revenue, his wife Laila Kaniz Lucky and their son Ahmed Tawfiqur Rahman Arnab seeking its permission to go abroad and then return to country.
In the petition, they also sought stay on a Dhaka court order that on June 24 issued a travel ban on Matiur, Laila Kaniz Lucky, a former upazila parishad chairman of Narsingdi’s Raipura, and Tawfiqur in connection with corruption allegations against them.
Yesterday, the HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the rejection order considering that the petition was not presented properly.
Following the HC order, Matiur and wife and son cannot go abroad, Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz Bin Yusuf told The Daily Star.
Lawyer SM Shamim Hossain appeared for the writ petitioners during hearing on the petition.
Earlier, during the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Mushfiqur Rahman, the son of the second wife of the then NBR member Matiur Rahman, came into widespread discussion on social media when he went to buy a goat worth 15 lakh taka. The issue of Matiur’s wealth came into discussion based on the information about his son’s luxurious lifestyle.
